Through various strategies, No\u00e9 Soulier tries to \ndisrupt its inner logic and to make it visible spatially and temporally.\n He has only used classical ballet steps in order to focus the attention\n on the way the movements are put together. The use of ballet vocabulary\n is thus a means for the exploration of this very vocabulary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"No\u00e9 Soulier - The Kingdom of Shades\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/26847087?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first sequence, the steps follow the alphabetical order: \narabesque, attitude, assembl\u00e9\u2026 The ballet system is quite resistant to \nthis kind of manipulation. If one associates two ballet steps, it will \nusually produce an acceptable transition. He is trying to test that \nresistance by using different ways of associating steps. Thus the next \nsequence is composed only with preparation steps. They are the linking \nsteps, the ones that allow you to do another step such as bending your \nknees before a jump or opening your arms before a turn. The dancer tries\n to do these movements as if he would really perform the turn or the \njump and to interrupt himself at the last moment by initiating a new \npreparation. This gap between the intention and the action of the dancer\n makes visible the way he anticipates the movement to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last sequence is composed of excerpts from XIX century ballets including masculine, feminine and fantastic characters: <em>La Sylphide<\/em> (1831), <em>Giselle<\/em> (1836), <em>Napoli<\/em> (1841), <em>Paquita<\/em> (1847), <em>Nathalie or The Swiss Milkmaid<\/em> (1849), <em>Le Corsaire<\/em> (1858), <em>The Pharaoh\u2019s Daughter<\/em> (1862), <em>Don Quichotte<\/em> (1869), <em>Copp\u00e9lia<\/em> (1870), <em>La Bayad\u00e8re<\/em> (1877), <em>The Sleeping Beauty<\/em> (1890) and <em>Swann Lake<\/em>\n (1895).
