Cassiel Gaube is currently developing his work at the intersection of contemporary dance and Hip hop and Clubbing dances. Particularly, he delves in the practice of House dance, seeking to unwind its organizing principles and uncover its potential interplay with the action of walking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaube is now creating a solo Farmer Train Swirl – \u00c9tude<\/em>, that crystallizes the research he has undertaken in the field of Street dances over the last two years. The piece will premi\u00e8re during the End of Winter Festival at Kunstencentrum BUDA (Kortrijk) in February 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walking is one of our fundamental ways of relating to the world, deeply engrained in our neuro-motor system. In Farmer Train Swirl – \u00c9tude<\/em>, locomotion is conveyed as the empathic medium between the spectator’s and the performer’s body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The walk progressively transforms itself into complex and musical feet constellations, revealing the vast step vocabulary of House dance. Embracing the idea that “choreography is a negotiation with the patterns your body is thinking”<\/em> (Jonathan Burrows), this solo aims to open up a choreographic space in which one of our most fundamental somatic skills is brought into dialogue with the rich stepping lexicon of House dance and, through this interplay, reinvented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
